The temple sits atop a small hill fenced by dense vegetation including babul trees, on the banks of the Bhima river, requiring a modest climb as part of the pilgrimage.
According to tradition, Vishnu worshipped Ganesha at this site to gain the strength (Siddhi) needed to defeat the demons Madhu and Kaitabha — giving the temple its name, Siddhivinayaka, "the accomplishment-granting Ganesha."
