🛕 About This Temple

A Divya Desam of major philosophical significance, the site where Ramanuja is said to have received the sacred Ashtakshara mantra from his teacher and, in a defining act, shared it publicly despite being asked to keep it secret.

📜 Our Heritage

The temple has deep significance within the history of Sri Vaishnava philosophy specifically because of its association with Ramanuja's teacher Thirukkoshtiyur Nambi, developed as a centre of theological transmission alongside its role as an active Divya Desam.

🏛️ Design & Craftsmanship

A Dravidian-style temple whose historical importance rests significantly on the philosophical events tradition associates with this site, alongside its standing as one of the 108 Divya Desams in its own right.

🪷 Mythology

According to a well-known account in Sri Vaishnava tradition, Ramanuja's teacher Thirukkoshtiyur Nambi gave him the sacred Ashtakshara mantra only after eighteen visits, on condition it remain secret — Ramanuja is said to have instead climbed to the temple tower and taught it publicly to everyone gathered below, reasoning that though he alone might face consequences for disobedience, sharing this liberating knowledge could save countless others.
